Computer modelling for industrial applications: high-performance computing for formulation science

May 08, 2019, from 17:30 until 19:00, EPFL

As first event of the CECAM/MARVEL Mary Ann Mansigh conversation series, Massimo Noro, Business Development Director, Science and Technology at STFC Daresbury, will talk about computer modeling for industrial applications sharing his experience at Unilever and at STFC Daresbury.

In order to provide the broad EPFL community with an opportunity to meet leading figures in domains in close proximity with the development and application of molecular and materials simulations, MARVEL and CECAM organize the CECAM/MARVEL Mary Ann Mansigh conversation series. In this series, the guest engages in a conversation to describe his or her expertise, approaches to research, and career paths in this area from a perspective not usually encountered in "standard" scientific presentations.

For this first event, Massimo Noro will talk about his research at Unilever on self-assembling fluids, and about his work for the STFC Hartree Centre (UK) which helps companies translate scientific research into commercial products. The lecture will be followed by an interview with Prof. William Curtin (EPFL)about the relevance of simulation for industry and his role as the leader of an important computing facility that interacts directly with industry.
