NCCR MARVEL's Spaldin named foreign member of the U.S.'s National Academy of Engineering (NAE)

NCCR MARVEL project leader Nicola Spaldin of ETHZ has been named a foreign member of the National Academy of Engineering in the United States.

According to the NAE, election is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer.  Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to "engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature" and to "the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education."

Spaldin, who is  Professor of Materials Theory in the Department of Materials at ETH Zurich, was acknowledged for her theoretical contributions to advance the field of multiferroics.
