We are happy to announce that Serena Bragadini (UNIMORE, Italy), Valentina Sanella (Univ. Milano-Bicocca, Italy), Hela Mhiri (ENIT, Tunisia and ENSTA, Paris, France) and Jayashree Narayan (IISER Mohali, India) were granted INSPIRE Potentials – MARVEL Master's Fellowships after the October 2023 call. The four women are joining MARVEL labs for a 6-month Master's research project — congratulations!

  • Serena Bragadini from Università degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia will join the group of Nicola Marzari at EPFL from March 2024.
  • Valentina Sanella from Università Milano-Bicocca will join the group of Nicola Marzari at EPFL from April 2024.
  • Hela Mhiri from ENIT, Tunisia and ENSTA, Paris, France will join the group of Zoë Holmes at EPFL from mid-April 2024.
  • Jayashree Narayan from Indian Institute Of Science Education and Research Mohali will join the group of Sara Bonella at EPFL from August 2024.

These four students bring the number of fellowships to 51 since the 2016 launch of the initiative, which involves two calls per year. Of these, 14 are already continuing at the PhD level (or will soon) in a MARVEL group or ex-MARVEL group. Of those who left, at least 15 are continuing at the PhD level outside MARVEL in Switzerland or abroad. For those continuing at the PhD level in the field of MARVEL, the INSPIRE Potentials project is often crucial in the decision to stay in the domain.

The INSPIRE Potentials fellowships aim to empower excellent female students to conduct their Master's research project in simulation and modelling in a laboratory belonging to the NCCR MARVEL. They consist of a six-month 12'000 CHF fellowship (+ 500 CHF for travel + separate coverage of tuition fees and medical insurance (for non EU participants)).

Please note that the next application deadline is 15 April 2024. All the information is available here.
